Blue smoke typically means oil is burning in the combustion chamber. This can happen due to worn piston rings, a stuck oil ring, excessive oil levels, or improper installation of the piston rings. It may also occur if the engine runs too hot. To resolve this, inspect and replace worn piston rings, clean or replace the oil ring, check and drain excess oil, and ensure the cooling system is functioning properly.
3. **White Smoke – Causes and Solutions**
White smoke often points to water in the fuel system or coolant entering the combustion chamber. Possible causes include a damaged cylinder head gasket, leaking liner, or a faulty injector. To address this, check and remove any water from the fuel tank, inspect and repair or replace the cylinder head gasket or liner, and test or replace the injector if necessary.
4. **Engine Stalling – Diagnosis through Sound, Speed, and Smoke**
When a diesel engine suddenly stops, it’s important to observe the sound, speed, and smoke. If the engine slows down and stalls without unusual noise or smoke, the issue might be with the fuel system—like running out of fuel, a blocked fuel line, or a faulty fuel pump. If heavy black smoke is present, it could indicate overheating or incorrect fuel timing.
