An Outfit for Every Adventure: Spring Styling
I’ve always had a soft spot for fashion, though I wouldn’t call myself a trendsetter. Instead, I lean on the creativity of friends who know the industry well and platforms like Pinterest and Instagram for fresh ideas. Dressing up and experimenting with different styles has always been a source of joy for me—something I love doing just for fun. Before I became a mom, I was all about heels, perfectly applied makeup, and trying out new hairstyles. But life changed when I welcomed my kids into the world. Now, while I still occasionally experiment with my own looks, most of my energy goes into styling my children. They’re not always cooperative, though—my "tween" six-year-old especially loves to assert her independence. So when Gymboree reached out to ask me to create some outfits using their spring collection for kids, I jumped at the chance. The best part? My kids were absolutely thrilled to be involved. Thank goodness—they were on board, or else this momma might’ve gone overboard with the playful, adventurous looks we ended up creating during our trip to the nearest Gymboree store. One of my absolute favorites was the Bow Pleated Dot Shorts for Aliyah and the Engineer Stripe Cargo Shorts for Brayden (both currently on sale!). We also picked up a few striped and plaid tops for Brayden to mix and match for that "mixed media" vibe everyone's talking about this spring. Aliyah got an adorable striped romper from the Blooming Nautical collection that was just perfect. This season, bold colors and playful patterns are everywhere. Bright hues and pops of color are definitely in, but sometimes it’s the subtle touches that stand out to me—like the hot pink buttons on Aliyah’s striped romper. I can’t get enough of stripes and polka dots either! They’re timeless and always add a touch of whimsy. To complete these playful looks, we mixed in pieces we already had in our kids' closets. Brayden wore his favorite denim shorts and green canvas shoes from Baby Gap, paired with a striped shirt from Gap and a denim vest from Target. For Aliyah, we added a striped top from Gap, a denim vest from Target, and blue Converse-style sneakers. For the nautical-inspired outfit, Aliyah wore sandals from Target (or maybe Gap—I can’t quite remember!) and Brayden wore a white shirt from Children’s Place with an anchor hat, brown belt, and sandals from Gap—all items we already owned. We also jazzed things up with a flower pencil from Anthropologie and vintage binoculars turned into necklaces with a bit of twine. It’s all about the fun details—Tim Gunn would approve!
