Back to School Breakfast
Every year, the excitement of the little ones is absolutely contagious. Their boundless energy makes every moment magical, and we try to celebrate each milestone with as much fanfare as possible—birthday parties, back-to-school events, and yes, even special breakfasts on the first day of school. If this were a race, I'd definitely be the cheerleader on the sidelines, decked out in bright colors, waving pom-poms and shouting encouragement. I wouldn’t miss it for the world because these moments are what memories are made of. And let me tell you, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of sending your child off to their first day of kindergarten. This year, I wanted to go all out. Not just for my daughter but for the entire family. So, the night before, I got to work. We started with homemade chocolate chip cookies, because who doesn’t love a good cookie? Then I wrapped little gifts for her teacher—a small token of appreciation for all the hard work they do. I also stumbled upon some adorable free printables online that tied perfectly into our first-day breakfast theme. I printed them, cut them out, and glued them onto cute little cards to hang around the table. Oh, and don’t forget the bunting! I hung colorful pennants above the table to add that festive touch. The night before, I baked the muffins too. Blueberry seemed like the safest bet since my son Brayden isn’t fond of cinnamon apple. But hey, if you’re looking for something heartier, you could always whip up an easy breakfast casserole the night before to feed everyone in one go. That way, you won’t have to worry about scrambling eggs or pancakes in the chaos of the morning rush. When morning came, everything was ready. The table was set, the muffins were warm, and the house smelled like a bakery. I even managed to sneak in a few last-minute notes for her lunchbox, just to remind her how proud I am of her. Because while I know this is a big step for her, it’s also a big change for me. I already miss her so much. But seeing her smile as she walked into the classroom made it all worth it. Of course, not everyone in the family was thrilled about the separation. My younger son still misses his big sister something fierce. He kept asking when she’d be coming home, and I had to keep reminding him that she’ll be back soon. I hope these little gestures—like the special breakfast and the notes in her lunchbox—show her that even though I’m not there physically, I’m always thinking of her. And now here I am, sitting at the kitchen table, sipping coffee and reminiscing about the past few weeks. Life feels a bit quieter, but in the best possible way. There’s something about having a little extra space in the mornings, isn’t there? No frantic searches for lost socks or forgotten lunch boxes. Just peace and quiet, which is both a blessing and a curse. I guess I’ll take it while it lasts. Anyway, I thought I’d share this experience with all of you. Maybe it’ll inspire someone else to plan their own first-day-of-school celebration. Trust me, it’s worth it. Whether it’s baking muffins or writing heartfelt notes, these small acts of love can make such a difference. Plus, it gives you an excuse to bake cookies—and who doesn’t love cookies? Little brother decided he wanted to help himself to the muffins before anyone else could get a bite.
This one still misses his sister though.
