How to Quickly Turn Chicken Manure and Other Poultry Waste into Premium Organic Fertilizer
Chicken manure is considered one of the most nutrient-rich types of poultry waste. Among all poultry, chickens and ducks consume a variety of feed such as insects, fish meal, grains, and grasses, which makes their manure high in organic matter, nitrogen, and phosphorus. In comparison, goose droppings have lower nutrient content, though they are closer in composition to that of livestock. However, the quality of chicken and duck manure still surpasses that of geese.
A key component of bird manure is uric acid, which is not directly usable by plants. Therefore, fresh poultry manure cannot be applied directly to crops, as it may harm the soil or cause root burn. Instead, it needs to be fully composted before use. Once properly fermented, poultry manure becomes a high-quality, fast-acting organic fertilizer that can be used as a base or top dressing for vegetables and cash crops. It not only boosts yield but also enhances the overall quality of agricultural products.
To speed up the fermentation process, you can use chicken manure mixed with crop stalks or other organic materials. Adding a specialized fermentation aid, such as Kinpo-type bio-organic accelerator, helps raise the temperature to 75°C within three days. This creates ideal conditions for microbial activity, breaking down organic matter and killing pathogens. Within a week, the mixture turns into a rich, beneficial bio-organic fertilizer.
This type of fertilizer is non-toxic, eco-friendly, and safe for both humans and animals. It helps break down chemical residues from pesticides and fertilizers, promoting healthier plant growth and better soil structure. It also improves crop resistance to diseases and increases productivity in both farming and animal husbandry.
To prepare the compost, first mix chicken manure with straw powder or other bulking agents to adjust moisture levels. The ideal moisture content should be between 55% and 65%. When squeezed, the mixture should form a ball without dripping water. Too much or too little moisture can hinder the fermentation process.
Next, mix rice bran (fresh is best) with the fermentation additive at a ratio of 5:1. This ensures that the microorganisms receive sufficient nutrients to carry out efficient decomposition. After three to five days, the compost will be ready for use as high-quality organic fertilizer.
