I’ve never lived on a farm, and honestly, I never really wanted to—still don’t. My connection to farming has always been through the local farmer’s market or a trip to a small farm store for fresh produce. It’s as close as I get. I don’t usually like the smell of farms, especially when animals are involved. But now that I have a child, I find myself looking forward to trips to the fruit farm near us. Baby Blue absolutely loves it too.
I want her to grow up understanding where food comes from—not just from that big metal building where you swipe a plastic card (which looks more like a toy) and walk out with whatever you want. I want her to really know where food comes from, so I take her to the source. What I’ve discovered is that I actually enjoy it too. The food tastes so much better—fresh, real, and full of flavor. It takes me back to a time when families grew their own food, spent time outdoors, and lived a healthier, more connected life.
There were fewer additives, more fresh air, and less sitting around. I love being able to go back to that place in my mind, and our family is slowly moving toward that lifestyle. I’ll probably never live on a farm, but next summer might be the perfect time to start a garden.

Baby Blue was learning how to find the “reddest†berries—okay, I know “reddest†isn’t a real word, but she understood what I meant. She wasn’t super interested though; she just wanted to eat them all right away.

She was hearing me say, for the 107th time, to put the berries in the container so we could take them home, but she pretended not to understand and the berries ended up back in her mouth.
