Potatoes, corn, soybeans, and spinach are highly productive crops, capable of yielding 1,200 kg of potatoes, 400 kg of corn, 700 kg of soybeans, and 3,500 kg of spinach per acre. These crops are not only efficient in terms of yield but also adaptable to various growing conditions, making them ideal for small-scale or large-scale farming operations.
For potatoes, the variety chosen is known for its high yield, large tubers, early maturity, and strong disease resistance. Each planting bed is 2 meters wide. From late December to early January, four rows of potatoes are planted along the edges, with a row spacing of 35 cm and a plant spacing of 20 cm. Approximately 6,600 holes are sown per acre. Before planting, 50 kg of compound fertilizer and 500 kg of manure are applied per acre. During the tuber development stage, 15 kg of urea is added. After sowing, the soil is covered with plastic film, and a small arch shed is constructed over the plot. Regular hilling is performed—twice during the early growth phase, once when seedlings reach 8–10 cm, and then every 8–10 days thereafter. Potatoes are typically harvested in mid-May.
Corn is grown using the Suyu 19 variety. In early April, one row of
Spring corn is planted in the center of an open field, with a hole spacing of 20 cm. Two seedlings are left per hole, resulting in about 3,300 plants per acre. A base fertilizer of 1,500 kg of sheep manure or 50 kg of ammonium bicarbonate is applied before planting. Early-stage fertilization includes 500 kg of manure per acre. For heavy ear development, another 50 kg of ammonium bicarbonate is applied. It’s important to monitor and control corn borers. Harvesting usually takes place by the end of August.
Soybeans use the Swan Egg No. 1 variety. After the potato harvest, four rows of green soybeans are planted in the same area, with a 30 cm spacing between holes and two plants per hole. A base compound fertilizer of 20 kg per hectare is used, and good manure application ensures healthy seedlings. Urea at 5–8 kg per acre is applied as needed. Soybean meal should be well controlled during the harvest period. Like corn, soybean harvesting concludes by the end of August.
Spinach is grown using the Super Pioneer variety. After the corn and soybean harvests, spinach is planted in deep sorghum fields. The sorghum rows are 1.2 meters wide, with six rows of spinach planted per section, spaced 20 cm apart, resulting in around 50,000 seedlings per acre. Urea at 5–6 kg per mu is applied as a top dressing. A second application of 15 kg of urea per acre is done later. The final fertilizer application is made 15 days before harvest, using 25–30 kg of ammonium bicarbonate per acre. Fertilizer should not be spread directly on the leaves to avoid white spots; instead, it should be dissolved in water and poured into furrows. After fertilizing, the soil is covered to encourage vigorous growth. Throughout the growing season, irrigation is essential, and drainage systems should be maintained in case of heavy rains.
