I've never lived on a farm, and honestly, I never wanted to (and still don't). My closest encounters with rural life are trips to the local Farmer’s Market or a quick visit to a farm store for fresh produce. To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of the smell—especially when animals are involved. But now that I have a child, I find myself looking forward to visits to our nearby fruit farm, and even enjoying them. Baby Blue loves it too.
I want her to grow up understanding where food comes from—not just from that big metal building where you swipe a plastic card (which looks more like a toy) and walk out with whatever you want. I want her to really know where food comes from, so I take her to the source. What I’ve discovered is that I actually enjoy it too. The food tastes so much better—fresh, real, and full of flavor. It also takes me back to a time when families grew their own food, spent time outdoors, and lived more simply.
Back then, everything was fresh and healthy, with fewer additives. People were more connected to the land and the seasons. I love visiting that mental space, and our family is slowly moving in that direction, bit by bit. I’ll probably never live on a farm, but maybe next summer will be the perfect time to start a garden.

Here’s Baby Blue learning how to find the "reddest" berries (okay, it's not a real word, but she got it). She wasn’t really interested in picking, though—she just wanted to eat them.

She was hearing me say, for the 107th time, to put the berries in the container so we could take them home—but she pretended not to understand, and the berries ended up right back in her mouth.
