An Outfit for Every Adventure: Spring Styling

I’ve always had a soft spot for fashion, though I’d never consider myself a die-hard trendsetter. Instead, I rely on a mix of creative inspiration from friends in the industry, as well as endless scrolling through Pinterest and Instagram for ideas. There’s something magical about pretending, experimenting, and having fun with different styles—mixing and matching until you find what works.

Before I became a mom, I lived for high heels, meticulously applied makeup, and trying out new hairstyles every other day. But life changed when my kids came along. Now, while I still dabble in putting together fresh looks for myself occasionally, most of my energy goes into styling my little ones—especially since my “tween” six-year-old isn’t exactly thrilled about being dressed up anymore. Let’s just say she’s hit her independence phase early.

So when Gymboree reached out to ask if I’d be interested in styling some spring outfits for their kids’ collection, I jumped at the chance without hesitation. The best part? Both of my kids were super excited about it too. Thank goodness—they were definitely on board, or else this mama might’ve sent them overboard in these playful, adventurous ensembles we ended up creating during our trip to the local Gymboree store.

One of my absolute favorites was the Bow Pleated Dot Shorts for Aliyah and the Engineer Stripe Cargo Shorts for Brayden (both currently on sale!). We paired those with some stripes and plaids from their existing wardrobe to create that mixed-media look everyone’s talking about this season. For Aliyah, we added an adorable striped romper from the Blooming Nautical collection that made her sparkle like sunshine on water.

This spring, bold colors and eye-catching patterns reign supreme. From hot pink buttons on rompers to classic stripes and polka dots, there’s something for everyone. Bright doesn’t always mean loud—it can be the subtle touches that stand out the most. Take Aliyah’s romper again—the hot pink buttons add just the right amount of flair without overwhelming the outfit.

To complete these looks, we incorporated pieces already in our closet, like Brayden’s denim shorts and green canvas shoes from Baby Gap, and Aliyah’s striped shirt from Gap, denim vest from Target, and blue Converse-style sneakers. For the nautical theme, we pulled out Aliyah’s sandals from Target (or maybe Gap—I can’t quite remember), Brayden’s white shirt from Children’s Place, and his anchor hat, brown belt, and sandals from Gap. Oh, and don’t forget the little flourishes—like turning a flower pencil from Anthropologie and vintage binoculars into makeshift necklaces with some twine. It’s all about adding those fun details that make an outfit pop.

I hope this gives you some ideas for sprucing up your kids’ wardrobes this spring. With just a few key pieces, you can easily transition into this season’s trends. If you’re looking for even more inspiration, check out this video we put together:

Stay tuned for some exciting announcements coming your way soon!
