Plastic anti-theft cap leak and sealing performance test method introduction

Plastic anti-theft caps are widely used in bottle packaging, especially in the beverage industry. These caps can be categorized into two main types: carbonated beverage caps (commonly known as gas caps) and non-carbonated beverage caps (also referred to as non-gas caps). Typically, polyolefin is the primary raw material used for manufacturing these caps, and they are produced through injection molding or hot pressing techniques. The key requirements for plastic anti-theft caps include ease of opening for consumers and a secure seal to prevent leakage. Ensuring proper sealing performance is crucial, and it remains a central focus during both online and offline quality control processes. To evaluate the sealing performance of these caps, standardized testing methods have been established. According to the national standard GB/T 17876-1999, various tests are conducted, including cap opening torque, thermal stability, drop resistance, and most importantly, sealing performance. For non-gas caps, the test involves cutting off the anti-theft ring and applying a rated torque of at least 1.2 Nm. The cap is then placed in a sealed tester, pressurized to 200 kPa, and kept under water for one minute to check for leaks. For gas caps, the pressure is increased to 690 kPa, and after one minute, any gas leakage is observed. Then the pressure is further raised to 1207 kPa, and the cap’s integrity is checked again for tripping or failure. In practical applications, instruments like Labthink’s “LSSD-01 Leakage and Sealing Strength Tester” are commonly used. This device is designed for precise measurement of leakage and sealing performance in standard plastic anti-theft caps with thread diameters of 28mm and 38mm. It can also assess sealing torque, connection trip strength, overall bottle sealability, pressure resistance, and fracture resistance. The instrument comes equipped with a specialized "plastic anti-theft cap sealing performance test device." The cap is connected via a special unit and placed in a transparent observation tank. Test parameters such as pressure and leakage are set, and the test is initiated automatically. Results, including pressure levels and leakage volume, are displayed on an LCD screen. Additionally, visual inspection of bubble formation in the tank provides a real-time assessment of the cap’s performance. In conclusion, the sealing performance of plastic anti-theft caps plays a vital role in preventing package leakage and product degradation. Proper control of this feature ensures good user experience and minimizes the risk of leakage. This article has provided an overview of the leak detection and sealing performance evaluation of plastic anti-theft caps.
