Australia will enact legislation for Chinese medicine in July next year, recognizing the legal status of Chinese medicine, which will open up a new phase for the internationalization of domestic Chinese medicine companies.

According to Li Chuyuan, general manager of the Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Group who just returned from the First Australian International Conference on Chinese and Western Medicine, the Australian government will legislate on July 1 next year and will form an institution similar to the Chinese Medicine Administration of the People's Republic of China. The legal status of Chinese medicine is the name of a Chinese medicine clinic.

Li Chuyuan believes that although the Ministry of Science and Technology proposed the strategy of “internationalization of Chinese medicine” as early as 1996, China still has no case of proprietary Chinese medicines entering the mainstream pharmaceutical market in Europe and the United States as a drug. “The Australian legislation on Chinese medicine will internationalize local Chinese medicine companies. To bring new opportunities, Chinese medicine companies can take the road to Australia."

Li Chuyuan told this reporter that the registration of drugs in Australia and Europe and the United States can recognize each other. Once Chinese medicine enters this market, it is equivalent to gaining a “stepping stone” into the European and American markets. In addition, proprietary Chinese medicines can be sold in Australia through both filing and registration.
