The leaves are trifoliate, meaning they have three leaflets, and are papery in texture. The plant produces drooping racemes—clusters of flowers—that grow on old stems, ranging from 10 to 35 cm in length. The corolla, or the petals, are dark purple in color, adding a striking visual element during the flowering season, which occurs between April and May.
The fruit is woody and covered with dense, rust-colored hairs, making it distinctive. Propagation is usually done through seeds. One of the most popular cultivars is "Changchun Youmao Teng," known for its tall growth, evergreen foliage, and the unique characteristic of blooming on old stems. This makes it particularly attractive for ornamental use.
