Limonium stenatum, commonly known as Blue Xueke Limonium, is a hardy flowering plant native to the Mediterranean coast. Growing up to 60–90 cm tall, the entire plant has a rough texture, which gives it a distinctive appearance.
The leaves are basal, pinnately divided, and have undulating edges, adding to its unique look. The flower stems produce two forked branches, leading to an indented corymbose inflorescence. The flowers come in a variety of colors, including blue-violet, yellow, pink, and white, offering a vibrant display. The corolla is typically white or yellow and tends to fall off early, but the blooms are long-lasting when dried.
Flowering occurs from May to June, making it a popular choice for spring gardens. There are several cultivated varieties available, such as 'cv. Early Blue', 'cv. Gold Coast', 'cv. Midnight Blue', and 'cv. Iceberg', each offering different color options and growth habits.
This plant is widely used in flower beds, as a cut flower, and is also excellent for dried flower arrangements. With around 300 species in the genus, Limonium is commonly found along seashores, inland salt wetlands, and sand dunes. In China, there are approximately 17 species, distributed mainly in Xinjiang, Northeast China, North China, and Northwest China.
