True and false fertilizer identification method

First, identify from the packaging:

1, check the sign. According to relevant national regulations, chemical fertilizer packaging bags must be marked with the product name, nutrient content, grade, trademark, net weight, standard code, factory name, site, production license number, etc.; if the above-mentioned mark is not complete or incomplete, it may be false. Fertilizer or poor fertilizer.

2, check the bag seal. Special attention should be paid to chemical fertilizers that have obvious sealing and sealing marks on the bags. This fertilizer may be adulterated.

Second, identify from the shape and color:

1, urea: white or light yellow, granular, acicular or prismatic crystals. 2, ammonium sulfate: white crystals. 3, Ammonium bicarbonate: White or other variegated powder or granular crystals, individual manufacturers produce large particles of flat spherical ammonium bicarbonate. 4, ammonium chloride: white or light yellow crystals. 5, ammonium nitrate: white powder crystals or white, light yellow ball particles. 6, ammonia: For colorless or dark liquid. 7, lime nitrogen: grayish black powder. 8, superphosphate: gray or light skin powder. 9, heavy calcium phosphate: dark gray, gray particles or powder. 10, calcium magnesium phosphate: grayish brown or dark green powder. 11. Calcium, Magnesium, Phosphorus and Potassium: Grayish brown or dark green powder. 12. Phosphorite powder: Gray, brown or yellow fine rain powder. 13, Nitrophosphate: gray particles. 14, potassium sulfate: white crystals or powder. 15. Potassium chloride: white or light red particles. 16, monoammonium phosphate: gray or dark gray particles. 17. Diammonium phosphate: white or light yellow particles.

Third, identify from the smell:

The liquid with strong pungent ammonia taste is ammonia water; the fine particles with obvious pungent ammonia taste is ammonium bicarbonate. The fine powder with sour taste is heavy calcium phosphate, and the lime with special smell is lime nitrogen.

If superphosphate has a very pungent and sour taste, it is likely that waste sulfuric acid is used during the production process. This poor quality fertilizer is very toxic and can easily damage or burn the crop.

Fourth, add water to dissolve the identification method:

Take 1 gram of chemical fertilizer, place it in a clean glass tube (or glass, white porcelain bowl), add 10 milligrams of distilled water (or clean cold boiled water), shake well to see if it dissolves, all dissolved is nitrogen fertilizer or potash fertilizer. Dissolved in water but residue is superphosphate; soluble in water without residue or residue is very small; superphosphate; soluble in water but the ammonia smell is ammonium bicarbonate; insoluble in water, but The gas bubbles produced and the calcium carbide flavor are lime nitrogen.

Five, burning identification method:

Take a teaspoonful of fertilizer on burning red charcoal, burn fiercely, carefully observe the situation, smoke and fire, ammonia smell is ammonium nitrate; explosion sound, no ammonia flavor is potassium chloride; no violent reaction, there is Ammonium flavor is urea and ammonium chloride; phosphated mineral powder is added with ammonium sulfate instead of ammonia.

Sixth, testing qualitative identification:

Identification of superphosphate and calcium magnesium phosphate fertilizer, the two fertilizers out a little, dissolved in a small amount of distilled water, with a wide pH test paper identification, acidic is superphosphate, was neutral calcium magnesium phosphate fertilizer.

When potassium chloride or potassium sulfate is identified, 5% cesium chloride solution may be added to produce white precipitate of potassium sulfate; when 1% silver nitrate is added, white floc is produced as potassium chloride.

The last thing to be reminded is that although some fertilizers are true, but their content is very low, such as superphosphate, the available phosphorus content is less than 8% (the minimum standard should be up to 12%), it belongs to inferior chemical fertilizers, and has little effect on crops. If this is the case, some samples (about 500 grams) can be collected and sent to the local department of agriculture, chemical industry, or standards for identification.
