Spinach is one of the important vegetables in the spring in northern China. It has a cool, hot, and heat-resistance. The optimum temperature for growth is 15°C--20°C. It is difficult to cultivate spinach because of high temperature and rain in summer. In recent years, some Shouguang vegetable growers have used greenhouses to adopt hydroponics techniques for the success of summer spinach cultivation. The main points of cultivation techniques are described below:

1. Variety selection. In the summer cultivation of spinach must choose heat-resistant varieties, such as the Japanese pioneer, Xinkang heat 3 and so on.

2. Sowing seedlings. In the sowing in May, planting cups are generally used to raise seedlings in nursery sheds. The bottom of the cup is first loaded with ceramsite, and the height of the cup is 2cm-3cm away from the cup. After sowing, it is covered with fine sand and drenched with water. Nursery sheds cover the shade nets, and the shading nets are promptly removed after emergence to prevent leggy seedlings. 2 tablets - 3 tablets of real leaves, 1 seedling per cup.

3. Cover the shade net. Summer sunshine, high temperature, seriously affect the growth of spinach, the roof of the greenhouse should be covered with silver-gray shade net, reduce light and temperature. The shading net can reduce the light intensity by about 30% and the temperature can drop by 2°C - 3°C.

4. Colonization. When the seedlings are 5 cm to 6 cm in height, they have 3 to 4 true leaves (18 days to 20 days in seedling age) and they can be planted on the cultivation tank and 60 plants per m2.

5. Nutrient solution management. 1 nutrient solution formula. 1 kg of water plus 379 mg of ammonium sulfate, 406 mg of potassium dihydrogen phosphate, 150 mg of potassium sulfate, 186 mg of calcium nitrate, 120 mg of magnesium sulfate, 1.54 mg of manganese sulfate, 0.22 mg of zinc sulfate, 0.08 mg of copper sulfate, 0.02 mg of ammonium molybdate Mg, Fe--EDTA22 mg. 2 nutrient solution concentration management. The concentration of nutrient solution and the EC value (Note) for spinach growth should be adjusted appropriately with the fertility process. In the early stage of colonization, the plants are small, need less nutrients, and the concentration of nutrient solution can be appropriately reduced. The EC value is suitable from 0.8ms/cm to 1.3ms/cm, and to the late growth stage, the EC value is controlled at 1.3ms/cm--2.0ms/ Cm. Test once every 7 days, record the change of water consumption and EC value, and supplement and adjust it in time. Each replenishment amount is about 20% - 30% of the initial amount. 3 water level management. At the initial stage of colonization, the plants are small, the root system is underdeveloped, and the water level of the nutrient solution is high. It is advisable to set the foam plate about 1 cm away from the foam. As the growth progresses, the water level can be gradually reduced to 2 cm - 3 cm from the planting plate, so that part of the root system is exposed to air, which is conducive to the growth and development of roots and plants. 4 pH adjustment. The suitable pH value for spinach growth is 5.8--6.3. During the cultivation process, the pH value of the nutrient solution decreases with the growth of the plant and should be detected periodically with a pH meter. When the pH is lower than 5.8, it can be adjusted with 0.5%-1.0% NaOH solution. 5 nutrient solution circulation. The nutrient solution should be circulated daily to ensure a balanced supply of nutrients and to increase the oxygen content of the nutrient solution so that the spinach grows neatly and consistently. Usually two times a day, once a week, each time, each liquid supply 1 hour - 2 hours.

6. Harvest. Hydroponic spinach rarely suffers from diseases and insect pests. Its water content is high, its stems and leaves are tender, its growth speed is fast, and its yield is high. Generally, 30 days to 45 days after planting, plant heights of 25 cm to 35 cm can be harvested.
